A Parent Interviews Her Fourth Grader About
THE CAMP at the Barbara C. Harris Camp & Conference Center

Parent :  So, when did you go to camp?
Camper
:  I can't remember.

Parent:  What do you mean you can't remember?  It was only 4 months ago, and you had such a great time!
Camper:  Does every kid have to do this?

Parent:  Nope, just you.  Let's continue.  So, you went to camp the last week in July.  Do you remember who you went to camp with?
Camper
:  I went with my friend from church

Parent: Good!  Now tell me about your counselors.
Camper:  They were really funny and nice.
There was Lauren, Andy, and Atricia.  Or some "A" name like that.  I can't remember it exactly.

Parent:  I met Andy.  Isn't he a boy?
Camper
:
Yes.  But he didn't sleep in our cabin.  His cabin was just part of our small group.

Parent:  That's good to hear.   Tell me about some of the things you did that you liked the best.
Camper
:  Well, there was this night we had a huge campfire and made hot dogs.  Even though the hot dogs were really bad.  We played soccer.  There was a "Backwards Day" when we wore our clothes backwards.  We also went swimming, canoeing, and kayaking.  There was crafts and Bible Study.  Lights out was at 9:00 PM.

Parent:  Tell me what the Bible Study was like.
Camper
:  Every day we talked about something different.  There were five things:  Jesus cares, Jesus creates, Jesus loves, Jesus forgives, and. . . I forget the other one.

Parent:  Well, 4 out of 5 is pretty good.  Tell me about the church part.
Camper
:  We sat outside on the big rocky steps and sang songs, and prayed, and did communion.  Oh, and there was the "sing-y" thing.

Parent:  "Singy thing?"
Camper
:  Yeah, it was after dinner.  We got together in the big building and sang songs and danced.

Parent:  What were your favorite songs?
Camper
:  I can't really remember.  There were a few good ones.

Parent:  All this sounds like a lot of church for you.  Was it too much?
Camper
:  No.  It was "funner."  There was more kids stuff.  At regular church, I don't get half the things they are saying.  I can't make out the words.  At that place, I understood what they were saying.  It made a lot more sense to me up there.  But sometimes the second part was long."

Parent:  Second part?
Camper
:  Of church, after the songs and talking were over.

Parent:  All right, you are almost done.  Last question:  Would you go back again?
Camper
:  Yes.

Parent:  Why?
Camper
:  Because it was fun!
